ICNY have just released their new collaboration collection with Staple design, available at the following selected UK retailers - Urban Industry. Entrepreneurs.
"As fate would have it, founders jeffstaple (Staple) and Mike Cherman (ICNY) met by chance years prior when a young Cherman was seeking a job at Staple. Rather than customarily submitting his resume as most applicants would have done, Cherman took a bold and spontaneous approach – pasting signs all over the Lower East Side of NYC to get jeffstaple's attention – an act for which he was arrested and detained for two nights. Years later, the two designers-turned-founders recount the story and discuss the current collaborative project during a new exclusive episode of the video series "1-2-1 w/jeffstaple ft. Mike Cherman of ICNY," which will be released this Friday, October 10.
Merging fashion and function, the ICNY brand was born out of a need for safety. Cherman, who learned the importance of visibility after an unfortunate biking accident, created innovative clothing brand incorporating 3M reflective elements. The Staple x ICNY collaboration ushers in four 3M reflective pieces: a pullover hoody, a twist on the classic Staple Pigeon tee, a knit cap, and a pair of ICNY signature half-calf reflective socks. The capsule is a true collaborative collection featuring graphics and branding from both of the NY-based brands.
The pullover hoody features a reflective chest graphic mash-up of the ICNY and Staple Pigeon logos as well as a reflective pattern on the sleeves, while the tee features a reflective version of the signature Staple Pigeon and a collaborative Staple x ICNY reflective patch. The infrared beanie was made with a reflective yarn that runs throughout the entire cap. Infrared socks (to represent the color of the Staple Pigeon's feet) display a reflective repeating plus sign design, paying homage to jeffstaple’s "positive social contagion," the motto that has been at the heart of the Staple brand since day one."
